Update from Pilgrim George, in Pikeville, Kentucky

...."I am writing this from the library in Pikeville, KY, on August 3, as the rain pours down outside (an hour ago a man stopped an gave me a new umbrella in lieu of the predicted rain - a first).  Last night a man stopped at the end of the day and offered me a place to stay so I slept in his camper in his back yard and I had a wonderful home cooked meal.  I am still in the buckle of the Bible Belt so the hospitality and interest is at its peak.  Tomorrow I should be crossing over into West Virginia and a friend from Evansville, IN, plans to walk with me for three days.  I am on US Route 119 and that will take me all the way to Mt St. Macrina.  I have now passed the half way mark from Alabama to Pennsylvania...."

I dont know if you will remember me but I met you 8/03/09, Monday morning before you crossed into Pike County KY. I have never been drawn to anyone more than I have been to you. When I saw you, I had an unbelievable need to meet you. You were very gracious and kind to both me and my husband, Lyndon, who you met later that morning. I looked for you yesterday and today after work because I want to make sure you have the necessities to begin the next part of your journey. I feel like this was truly a blessing in my life to have spoken to you and I have told lots of people about you and your journey. You have truly been an inspiration to me and you are someone that I will never forget. I hope to hear from you or better yet, I hope to see you soon. God bless you. Kim Johnson Dorton KY

pilgrim george visited our church, St. George, and graced us with his church hall presence for a time. I read way of the pilgrim as one of first books as catholic in 1996. Love & envy his freedom and devotion to God.

George there is some thing about you, its been well over a month that i met you and i think about you every day just wondering if you made it home, i will be honest i have never really been in to the whole god thing not saying i dont beleave in god i just live life in all the wrong ways, and to tell the truth i had never thought about changing the way i live till i met you, we didnt really even talk that much you just told me a little about your self, but for some reason in the days after i just kept thinking about how short life is and some day i will have to answer for the things i have did and how i live, but anyway if your walking to make people take notice well you sure did get me to stop and take a look at my self.. thanks and good luck, i hope to get the chance to see you again some day
